About Andy Au

Andy Au is a CPA-qualified Accountant and Mortgage Broker based in the Greater Newcastle Area, and the Director of Aurum Accountants in Tighes Hill, NSW. With a career in accounting and financial services stretching back to 2008, Andy brings close to two decades of experience across taxation, accounting, business advisory, and mortgage broking.

Andy holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Finance from the University of Newcastle, complemented by a Diploma of Financial Services in Financial Planning and Services from the Investment Banking Institute Business School, and the CPA Australia program in Accounting and Finance. He is also a certified Xero Advisor and a Justice of the Peace in NSW.

Andy's career began as a Trainee Accountant at K H Perry & Co in the Greater Newcastle Area, where he spent over two years building his foundational accounting skills. He went on to work as a Business Services Accountant at WP Partners in Warners Bay, then Macmillans Waller Fry in Maitland, before moving into banking as a Business Banker at PT. Bank Commonwealth, and later as a Servicing Planner at Commonwealth Bank in Newcastle. This grounding in both accounting practice and banking gives Andy a thorough understanding of how lenders assess applications and how financial decisions play out in the real world.

In July 2015, Andy founded Aurum Accountants, where he now serves as Director. He is also a Director of BAS TAX AND BEYOND, extending his reach across business taxation and compliance. At Aurum Accountants, Andy works with individuals and businesses across tax planning and preparation, accounting, SMSF management, payroll, and business consulting. As a mortgage broker, he assists clients with bridging loans, construction loans, refinancing, and first home buyer applications.

The combination of deep accounting knowledge and lending experience under one roof means Andy can assess a client's complete financial position before recommending the right path forward. He is a native English speaker and also speaks Cantonese, allowing him to connect with a broader range of clients across the Newcastle community.
