I'm Kathryn Asmussen, and I run Kardinia Finance in Geelong. I work with self-employed people, sole traders, company directors and family businesses, anyone whose income comes from something they've built rather than a payslip.
Self-employed income is honestly my favourite thing to read. Your accountant has probably helped you reduce your tax bill, or set you up with a structure that suits how you operate, and that makes sense. My job is making sure your lending fits alongside it, using the income you're actually earning now rather than a figure from two years ago.
I spent seventeen years in finance before starting Kardinia, including seven at Westpac and financial planning before that, so reading a set of financials is second nature. I go through yours, work out what can fairly be added back, then find the lender whose policy suits the way you earn. There are more than forty on my panel, so there's usually one that fits.
Most weeks that looks like getting someone into their first home without two full years of returns behind them, or putting together a low doc application using BAS and business bank statements, or moving a business owner off a rate that stopped suiting them a while back. Sometimes it's investment, construction, commercial or SMSF lending.
You'll deal with me start to finish, and honestly, I answer my own phone.
