About Ryan Somes

I'm Ryan Somes, founder of Lending on Coastal and a mortgage broker based in the Redlands. I help homeowners and property investors structure their lending in a way that keeps their options open.

Before moving into broking, I spent years in the Royal Australian Navy as a Marine Technician on submarines, an environment where process, precision, and getting the sequence right isn't optional. After leaving the Navy, I spent nine years as an Operations Manager running a car rental business that grew to a fleet of over 100 vehicles and a team of more than ten people. That role taught me how to think about cash flow, asset management, and the financial decisions that come with building and running something at scale.

That background shapes how I approach lending. I'm not focused on finding the lowest rate and moving on. I'm focused on how a loan is structured today and whether it creates problems, or creates options, further down the track.

I work with clients across the Redlands and broader Southeast Queensland, and I specialise in three areas where structure genuinely matters: home upgraders navigating the transition between properties, property investors building and managing a portfolio, and clients purchasing property through a self-managed super fund.
