Used Tom for our home loan a few years back. At the time, I put the average experience down to our situation being a bit complicated — we weren't the easiest clients on paper, so I figured some of the friction was just part of the process. Communication was slower than I'd have liked, and I didn't always feel like we were getting proactive advice, but we got the loan over the line so I moved on. It wasn't until we went elsewhere for subsequent finance that I realised the bar I'd accepted was actually pretty low. Our new broker was night-and-day different — responsive, transparent, genuinely across our goals. That comparison made me reflect on our experience with Tom, and I started to question whether the rate and structure we'd been put into was really in our best interest, or just the easiest path for him. The advice we received was at best lazy, and at worst genuinely costly to us financially. Looking back, I think we were underserved from the start. And somehow, years later, it's still not over — I continue to receive marketing emails despite having asked multiple times to be removed from his mailing list. At this point I've lost count of how many times I've requested it. I suppose if nothing else, it's consistent — the same lack of attention to detail that defined our experience then is apparently alive and well now. Says a lot. Wouldn't return, and wouldn't recommend.

We engaged Tom as the broker for commercial lease finance on the back of a previous personal lending experience that, while unremarkable, gave us no reason for concern. As an established business with a clear financial strategy, we came to him with a straightforward brief and specific instructions. What followed was a costly lesson in what happens when a broker either doesn't listen, doesn't understand, or simply doesn't care. We were locked into two high-interest commercial loans on five-year terms. This alone would have been disappointing — but what made it wholly unacceptable was that we had explicitly communicated our intention to extinguish those loans using the proceeds from the liquidation of an investment asset. This was not a vague or passing comment. He was fully across our position — we were simultaneously refinancing our home loan with him at the time, and the asset liquidation and debt reduction strategy was central to those discussions. He knew exactly what we were planning and when. When the settlement was completed and we moved to pay out the commercial loans as intended, we were met with the reality of being locked into five-year terms with no viable exit. The result was thousands of dollars in unnecessary interest expense — money that should never have been spent, on loans that should never have been structured that way, against the explicit instructions of the client. When we raised it, he claimed no knowledge of our intentions. Given the extent of our dealings and the direct conversations we had, that position was not credible then and remains not credible now. We received no acknowledgement, no accountability, and no attempt at resolution. We have since consolidated all finance with a new broker whose advice is transparent, strategic, and actually aligned with our goals. The difference has been significant. We would not recommend this broker to any business seeking professional, attentive, or trustworthy financial advice.
