My wife and I are first time home owners 5 years into our experience and were on full auto pilot. We had a loan coming out of a fixed interest period and had it in the back of our minds that it would revert to the 6.14% we had on another loan with the same financial institution. Why woouldn't it? We were considering looking at refinancing options later in the year as we wanted to do some home upgrades but it was not on our immediate to do list. I guess we were comfortably numb to our financial options caught up in the daily routine of sleep, work, sleep, work. The lender sends us an auto generated letter saying the interest rate is reverting to 8.86%! Absolute lunacy. We have never missed a payment. They have never had to chase us for anything. We were the perfect customers. 8.86%! Madness! I called them and they offered to lower it (sensing I was less than happy) however sending such a stupid letter had crossed them off our list for consideration for anything in the future. They had to go. Straight on the phone to George on a Wednesday with refinancing now our top priority. George lays it all out in black and white. No fuss. No muck about. He told us exactly what our options were and we gave him the information he needed. George wasn't going to promise us anything unless he knew we were in a good position to actually get it. Friday afternoon driving home from work and George calls to let us know we have formal approval to move to a new lender with a better loan offer. George set us up to come out on top and we have. My wife and I had just sat down after a day at work and signed the loan documents after 8pm. Who was responding to sms messages guiding us when we weren't 100% what was required? George.
